The Boys & Girls Club of the Sokaogon Chippewa Community strives to improve each child's life by implementing self-esteem, courage, and positive values. Since 1931, the vision of Boys & Girls Clubs has grown and changed with the needs of our children. As the needs of our children and their families continue to change, so will the dynamics of our programs and services.
The Positive Place For Kids
What we offer:
The Boys & Girls Club of Sokaogon Chippewa Community provides a safe, fun, and educational environment that unites youth in grades one to twelve, from all backgrounds, and encourages their development as caring, responsible community members and leaders. The Club creates daily opportunities for young people to learn, grow, and succeed while teaching the importance of character, community, education, and diversity.
In 2008 we had over 214 registered members, 123 males and 91 females.
Our average daily attendance was 38 youth.
The Boys & Girls Club remains accessible to all youth by charging a minimal membership fee of $10 per year with a max charge of $25 per family.
How the Boys & Girls Club of The Sokaogon Chippewa Community got it's start. .
Ribbon cutting and blessing ceremony for the building was on Friday, July 13. 2007. The Boys & Girls of the Sokaogon Community facility is dedicated Dean and Zina McGeshick, who perished when their vehicle struck a tree on an icy November night in 1988. A plaque is placed next the entry way in their honor .
The Boys & Girls Club's official day of service to the community was August 31, 2007.
Our 10,000 square foot facility features a regulation high school basketball court, a computer room, and large game room area that can be subdivided into three smaller rooms.
The facility was funded by grants and loans from the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development for $793,220 and the Department of Housing and Urban Development for $500,000.
USDA Rural Development State Director Frank Frassetto presented the tribe with a check for $3,530,000 in loan and grant funds for the construction of a re circulating sand filter system at a new site.
According to USDA Rural Development, the current sand filter system is failing due to outdated design standards, structural deficiencies and improper construction. Improvements are needed to provide a more reliable treatment system and additional capacity for planned growth occurring within the community.
